Apple Parts

02. March, 2009 | by John Moroney

As you all may know, my laptop has an alcohol problem. Repeated attempts to get any kind of useful information out of Apple about parts have failed, down to even a ballpark estimate for repair. Since Senator Patty Murray has repeatedly not answered my requests for a bloated government bailout, I have decided to perform the repair myself. I was lucky enough to find SynapTECH in Eugene, Oregon as a source for parts. I called to confirm that I was ordering the right part and spoke with an actual person, who was both friendly and helpful. The parts are supposed to be here tomorrow, and then I can give up this stupid external Windows keyboard.

Always remember that you are much smarter than the silly little bits of metal and plastic that sit enshrined before you. If you dump something into your laptop, hook up an external keyboard. If everything works, you probably just need to replace your old keyboard; the much-feared logic board is probably fine. Instructions can be found here. Simple. Macbooks are apparently highly prone to catastrophic spill damage, but that doesn’t mean it happens every time.

I’m so happy that tomorrow I will have the letter “n!”
